What your fees pay for:
Like most women today I must work to help make ends meet. I chose family childcare because I love working with children and when my children were younger it afforded me to stay home with them. However, contrary to popular belief, there is not a lot of money to be made in family childcare. What you pay me will buy quality childcare, nutritious snacks, and a loving nurturing environment. Your fees must also provide my income, including taxes and social security. Beyond that your fees pay for special insurance, training, food, toys, equipment, art supplies, and all of the other items your child will be using.
Like other self employed workers childcare providers do not get the benefits, which many employees take for, granted such as, health/dental insurance life insurance, unemployment, retirement, flexible time off etc. Family Childcare is also very restrictive and there is absolutely no room for growth because the state of CT dictates the size of my business. Also I cannot take time off for appointments without making sure my responsibilities are covered. To protect my rights and income you will find above that a guaranteed wage is part of my contract. I hope this gives you are better picture of the true cost of childcare.
